Why Sizing Up Your Lash Lift Shield Prevents Over-Curl
Share
One of the most common mistakes in Korean lash lift is choosing a shield that is too thin for a client with thick eyelids. At first glance, the eyelid may look fine with a medium or small shield. But over time, this leads to over-curl, and eventually the lashes start poking into the eyelid.
The Problem with Under-Sizing Shields
When a client has a thick eyelid, the lash base sits higher up. A thin shield wraps lashes around too tightly, creating a curl that is too dramatic. This shows up as lashes curling inward and touching the eyelid, causing discomfort and potential damage to lash health.
Even if the eyelid does not look obviously thick, some clients have just enough thickness to cause this issue. It is easy to overlook without experience.
The Fix: Bold Shields for Thick Eyelids
For clients with thicker eyelids, Bold Shields sizes 3, 4, and 5 are the right choice. These shields are thick enough to give the lash a proper arc without over-curling. The result is a beautifully lifted look with plenty of space from the side and a clean result from the front.
One important tip: when using Bold Shields, always start placement from the middle section of the shield. The very front edge is naturally thinner, so placing lashes there can still cause over-curl in the inner corner.
How Camera Angles Can Be Misleading
In flat, top-down photos, lashes may appear to cover most of the shield. But from the side, you can see there is actually plenty of space. The Bold Shield is thick enough that even when only half the lash length is on the shield, the result is still a beautifully open, lifted curl.
Bold Shields vs. Standard Shields
- Standard shields (Long Lash S/M): Thinner profile, better for flat or average eyelids
- Bold Shields (sizes 3-5): Thicker profile, ideal for clients with prominent or thicker eyelids
- Bold Shields have a thinner front edge — always use the middle section for consistent results
Why Shield Selection Matters Long-Term
Choosing the right shield is not just about today's result. A curl that is too tight will poke into the eyelid as lashes grow, causing discomfort over repeated sessions. Proper shield sizing separates a professional Korean lash lift from an average service.
