Why Thicker Lash Lift Rods/ Shields Matter More Than You Think

When it comes to Korean lash lift, most artists focus on perm solutions, shields sizes, and timing — but one factor that often gets overlooked is shield thickness. This single detail can make or break your results, especially for clients with specific eye shapes.

Shield Thickness: Why It Actually Matters

Not all lash lift shields are created equal. The cross-section of a shield determines how much the lashes are lifted and in which direction — and for certain eye shapes, using a shield that's too thin can lead to undercurl or a result that just doesn't hold.

To illustrate this, here's a comparison of two shields:

• Shield #1 — Cross-section of the Lifted Lounge Bold Shield (Size 5)
• Shield #2 — Cross-section of a thinner shield

Shield #2 is not thick enough for clients with a prominent brow bone or fuller eyelids. Instead, it's better suited for eye shapes that are more prone to undercurl — such as protruding eyes or downward-angled eye shapes.

How to Choose the Right Shield for Each Client

Choosing the right shield isn't just about size — it's about understanding your client's eye shape and lid structure. Here's a quick guide:

• Prominent brow bone or fuller eyelids → Use a thicker shield (like Bold Shields) to ensure the lashes lift properly over the curve of the lid
• Protruding or downward-angled eye shapes → A thinner shield may actually work better to prevent over-lifting
